Millicent Fawcett Statue unveiling

From 11.00 am until 12.00pm

At Parliament Square, London SW1P

Free

Join us in Parliament Square on 24 April for the special statue unveiling of suffragist leader Millicent Fawcett. Hers will be the first monument to a woman ever to stand in the iconic Parliament Square, and the first there to be created by a woman, Turner Prize-winning artist Gillian Wearing OBE.

This year marks a century since the first British women won the right to vote, with the passing of the Representation of the People Act 1918, one of our country’s most pivotal moments. We’re celebrating throughout 2018 with our #BehindEveryGreatCity campaign – and the unveiling of this landmark statue marks a key highlight. We hope you and your friends can come along.

The statue of Millicent Fawcett by Gillian Wearing OBE has been commissioned by the Mayor of London with 14-18 NOW, Firstsite and Iniva to commemorate the Centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918, through the Government’s national centenary fund.
